Finding my place in a new community has been like tredding water for days on end.
At 46 I can say without a doubt that utmost bravery for me is not speaking my mind, not standing up in front of a crowd to speak, nothing of the kind. The most courageous thing for me is to look at what life is offering, spread my arms wide, allow myself to receive it wholeheartedly, stay in the present and go with the flow.
Moving countries, homes, is one of the biggest human stressors. Starting a new job, another one. Raising a teenager, an added bonus to all of this. And still the part that I look to with the most anxiety is myself.
Relocating with pets is not easy but it is definitely a way to stay sane through travel in heat, nostalgia and worry about the future, bad accommodation and inherent road struggles. We highly recommend it.
Close to my fifth decade of life it makes me smile (ok, and sometimes cry) when I hear people say things like “you’ve changed so much, you’re no longer the person I used to know.” or “we will never change, we will always feel this way about each other.” or “I wish we could go back to the way things were.”
